For nearly two decades, I worked in high-end travel and expedition projects around the world. I had the privilege of collaborating with teams and experts from National Geographic, Ponant Expeditions, Abercrombie & Kent, and The World Residences at Sea.

I was part of teams of explorers, scientists, and storytellers, guiding travellers through remote oceans, ancient forests, and cultures that safeguard knowledge not found in books. A way of traveling that supports local communities, protects and conserves the land, and where the experiences you live remain with you long after the journey ends.

But over the years, every time I returned home from those missions, I saw the wear caused by conventional tourism in the Canary Islands, thousands of people arriving and leaving as if the territory were an amusement park. Nothing remained beyond the photographs.

So I left those journeys across the world to create Abora, offering travellers the opportunity to explore this land in an intimate, thoughtful, and deeply human way, guided by those who truly care for it. A way to explore the fragility of a unique territory, protected as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, alongside scientists and local guardians. A way to create experiences that endure in the traveler without imposing on the land. A way to belong to the place that welcomes you, and to help safeguard its legacy.

With time, I have learned that when we travel with respect, the land is not simply visited, it reveals itself. And a real luxury experience is not sustained by champagne, but by simplicity.
